A perfect example of a watch that explains a lot why we are into vintage watches. Back in the 1950s it was not common to find watches with a black dial. Actually it was the least sold colour in the 1950s (according to the great research of @siemswatches).
Finding a watch with a black gilt dial in all original condition can be a real hunt.
Paired with this stunning golden hour markers, dauphine hands and dark creamy lume, packed in a 36mm jumbo case, this ZENITH “Calatrava” ticks all boxes you could ask for on a vintage dress watch.
The matte black dial has a beautiful tropical patina, whilst the applied golden hour markers stand out with a great shape and texture.
A sunburst sub dial for the small second just completes the elegant look of this vintage piece.
Still having the original ZENITH “Z” crown with the star logo!
The movement is a hand wound calibre 126-6 with 15 jewels, small second and Incabloc. Made between 1950 to 1955 only.
At only 3.85mm movement height, it allows a thin build watch case. Perfect for a dress watch.
The word “Stötsäkrad” engraved to the back means “shokproof” and confirmes that our example was delivered to the Swedish market.
The crystal was replaced by a swiss made vintage one.
Serviced by our skilled watchmaker (who is addicted to vintage watches) and ready to beat on your wrist for many more decades!
