HEUER Autavia Ref. 2446M “Rindt” – Valjoux 72
Serial Number
95XXX
What are we looking at?
A very good and honest HEUER Autavia Ref. 2446M, known to collectors as the “Rindt”.
This example combines the sought-after second-execution screw-back case with the third-execution dial—the configuration associated with 1970 Formula One World Champion Jochen Rindt. Importantly, it is fitted with the rotating minute-indication bezel, matching the configuration Rindt himself was photographed wearing.
Serial number 95XXX places it within the documented early production range, dating the watch to circa 1968. (First catalogue date: 1968)
The black reverse-panda dial is beautifully preserved, with crisp white registers, applied steel markers and dark, evenly aged tritium. All lume plots are original, as are the polished matchstick hands and their luminous material.
At 38.8 mm, the proportions are spot on. Compact enough to feel properly vintage, but with enough presence to remind you that the Autavia was built as a serious tool watch.
Inside is the manual-winding Valjoux 72 column-wheel chronograph. The movement has been fully serviced and comes with our 12-month warranty.
What do we need to know?
The case appears unpolished and remains very sharp, with clearly defined edges and bevels. It shows only minor signs of wear and is in very good vintage condition.
The minute bezel is nicely faded and shows visible wear. To be fair, most things from 1968 have faded a little.
The watch retains its large signed HEUER crown and comes on a new Watchurbia “The Ashwood” Horween Chromexcel strap with racing holes, finished with a new original HEUER pin buckle.
No artificial ageing, no fresh polishing and no attempt to make it look younger than it is. Just a sharp case, a great dial, original lume and the right amount of history.
A proper Rindt Autavia. Racing licence not included.
