Heuer Carrera Dato 45 Ref. 3147S – First Execution, 1966
An exceptionally attractive example of the early Heuer Carrera Dato 45, reference 3147S, dating from the inaugural 1966 production of this now highly sought-after configuration.
This first execution is defined by its rare and short-lived 12 o’clock date display, paired with the original red date disc—a striking and unconventional solution that underscores Heuer’s experimental approach during this formative period of chronograph design. The layout was quickly revised, making this early configuration notably scarce.
Powered by the manual-wind Landeron 189 chronograph movement, the watch presents the classic Dato 45 architecture with 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock. The proportions are housed within a finely balanced 35.5mm stainless steel case, capturing the understated elegance of early Carrera design language.
The dial is particularly compelling, having developed a rich, deep patina reminiscent of aged limestone, lending the surface an organic depth and warmth that enhances its individuality. Far from uniform, the aging process has created a visually textured and highly charismatic presentation.
As one of the earliest expressions of the Carrera Dato concept—produced only briefly before subsequent design revisions—this reference occupies a distinctive place within Heuer’s mid-1960s chronograph development.
A rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant and visually characterful early Carrera, defined by its short production window, unconventional date placement, and compelling aged aesthetic.
