This Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Mariner “Deep Sea” E558, the second of the two Barracudas offered, is exactly that kind of watch.

Released in 1968 at the height of the mechanical diving era, the E558 was born from the same uncompromising philosophy that shaped the great tool watches of its generation. The Super-Compressor case, twin crowns, and internal rotating bezel weren’t design flourishes — they were necessities, engineered for divers who trusted their equipment with more than just punctuality.

This example stands apart through its no-frame date window, giving the dial an even cleaner, more open presentation. The tritium has matured into a deep pumpkin-colored patina, warm and dramatic, beautifully set against the matte surface of the dial. The thick tritium-filled hands match perfectly — unmistakably original, unmistakably vintage.

The case has seen a light polish in its past, but remains remarkably sharp, with strong lines and crisp transitions that preserve the watch’s integrity and tool-watch presence. It feels honest, well kept, and proudly lived-in — the way a true diver should.
